Kusadasi - Kolophon and notion
Kolophon (Degirmendere) is one of the twelve fon cities. Although it had a able fleet and army force, it has suffered abounding wars and has been disqualified by armament of Lydia, Persia and Macedonia even at times by sea pirates. When Kolophon was destroyed by Lysimakhos in 302 B.C. its neighbouring city, Notion (Ahmetbeyli) acquired importance. This city-limits which claimed Homer’s citizenship was aswell acclaimed with its Klaros Temple and the answer centre.
Situated in the Kolophon area in amid the cities Kolophon and Notion was the city-limits of Klaros. It was the centre of the Apollo Klarios cult. There was aswell a huge temple in the city-limits which was an answer centre abnormally during the Hellenistic period. Visitors from all corners of the world, kings, city-limits assembly and accustomed citizens came to argue the God Apollo’s Oracle. The temple was plundered at times by pirates but had all-inclusive banking revenues during the Roman Times.
